Information for USA Swimming (Long Course)

  • If your child is not currently registered as a USA Swimmer, you will need to register him/her as a seasonal USA athlete prior to swimming in any USA sanctioned meets. Seasonal registration opens April 1, 2012.

  • Seasonal registration costs $35 and is paid directly to Connecticut Swimming Inc. This is in addition to the $150 to register as a USA swimmer with the Oxford Swim Team.

  • The $150 registration fee for USA Swimming is budgeted as follows:
    • $100 of the registration fee goes toward coach’s fees
    • $50 is put into your escrow account

  • Escrow accounts are used toward entry fees at each swim meet. It is the parent’s responsibility to maintain a positive balance at all times. Each event at a swim meet is about $6.00. Unused money in the escrow account will be returned at the end of the swim season.

  • The long course season starts the last weekend in April and continues through the end of July. There are several meets offered each weekend and the coaches will decide which meets our USA swimmers will participate in.
    • The Long Course Regional Championships are held July 20 thru 22
    • The Long Course Age Group Championships are held July 26 thru July 29
  • After the coaches make a decision on the swim meets to attend, they will publish the schedule around the first week in April. The swimmers will have about 2 weeks to decide which meets they want to sign up for. (The aggressive summer swim meet sign up is required due to the limited number of long course pools in Connecticut. The meets fill up quickly and teams can get locked out of the meet).

  • If you do not sign up by the deadline, you will not be included in the meets.
